CUCET, CUET 2022: Explained in 7 simple points

Central University Common Entrance Test, CUCET or the renamed Common University Entrance Test, CUET 2022 notification was released yesterday by University Grants Commission, UGC. The commission in its notification has clarified that CUET 2022 scores would be the only consideration for undergraduate admissions and postgraduate admissions in the country’s 45 central Universities.

National Testing Agency, NTA would be conducting the CUET or CUCET 2022 examination. It would also be releasing the detailed notification. While the circular has clarified that the examination would be conducted in 13 languages and the basis of admission to central universities, there is still a lot of confusion regarding the CUCET/ CUET 2022 exam pattern, eligibility, syllabus, rules, exam date and more.

Students are asking when would CUET be conducted? How would it be conducted? What about Board Exam results now? Would CUET be used by all universities and colleges? We have attempted to answer the questions in 7 simple points to explain CUET 2022 to students.

What is CUCET/ CUET 2022?

CUET is, as the name suggests, the common entrance test for university admissions in the country. UGC has given its nod and all the universities under UGC (Central Universities) would now follow CUET for entrance or admission of their undergraduate as well as postgraduate courses.

Which Universities would accept CUET/ CUCET 2022 scores?

All Central Universities would accept CUET scores. Note, central universities are the institutes or varisities that are fully funded by the Central Government and work under the UGC. These include some of the top varsities of the country like Delhi University, Aligarh Muslim University, Banaras Hindu University, Jawaharlal Nehru University and so on.

Only CUET scores to be accepted for University admissions?

As per the notice, the Central Universities would be basing their admissions on the CUET or Common University Entrance Test. The universities, however, would have the option of setting a minimum cut off or eligibility criteria for the Class 12 Board Examination. For instance, Delhi University would be admitting students on the basis of CUET 2022 but might say that students need to have scored a minimum of 50 per cent in their Class 12 Board Exams to be eligible to apply.

What is the eligibility criteria for CUET/ CUCET 2022?

Any student who has appeared for or already passed their qualifying Class 12 examination is eligible to apply for CUET examination for undergraduate courses. For postgraduate courses, there would be the minimum requirement of having completed their graduation, or equivalent course.

What is the syllabus for CUET, CUCET 2022?

As per the official notice, the prescribed syllabus for Class 12 (NCERT) is the syllabus for the entrance examination. Detailed syllabus would be shared when NTA releases the information bulletin. The detailed information is expected to be released by NTA in 1st week of April on nta.ac.in.

What would be the exam pattern like?

CUCET 2022 or CUET 2022 would be conducted in two shifts. The detailed exam patter would be released in first week of April. Tentatively, however, CUCET would be a CBT or computer based test. Students would be required to appear for one mandatory language test along with any chosen subjects. Depending on the subjects studied by students in Class 12, the students would have an option of appearing for any subject combination they chose.

Apart from these 7 points, students may please note that the detailed notice would be released in April. Clarity on the exam pattern, subject choices, list of universities accepting CUET scores and all would be released then.

The only confirmation available at present is that CUET 2022 would be conducted, for admission to UG courses. The examination would be conducted in 13 languages – English, Hindi, Urdu and 10 regional languages. Tentatively CUET or CUCET would be conducted in July 2022 and registrations are likely to begin from April.
